Accordingly The sunAston Villa are considering a bold move for Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba.
Villa clearly has cash to offer this summer. They have been linked with a £60m move for Kalvin Phillips and while Pogba could potentially be a free transfer, he would demand massive wages.
Interestingly, Pogba is a player Gerrard has talked about in the past when he was making pundits for BT Sport and he spotted a small flaw in his game.
what was said
Gerrard thinks Pogba is going forward too much.
“I think if there’s one small, tiny criticism of this player, it would be that maybe he’s going forward too much,” said Gerrard.
“If he plays in central midfield with another player, like a Matic, he could leave him a bit exposed.
“I had similar criticisms of myself when I played in that position with Didi Hamann or Xabi Alonso – I was always eager to get into the penalty area and with experience and age and a bit more maturity you maybe find yourself his times off. You’re making your runs forward.”
Perfect role model
It seems like Gerrard knows Pogba’s weaknesses and that’s always good to know when managing a player.
To be honest, there might not be many better role models than Gerrard for Pogba. In his time, the Liverpool legend was one of the most tactically versatile and accomplished players ever.
Gerrard himself said he suffered from the same problems as Pogba but he worked to address them and became arguably the best midfielder of all time in the Premier League.
If Gerrard can do the same with Pogba, the Frenchman could be a star again when he joins Aston Villa.
