AT&T Inc. saw strong customer growth in its core wireless business in the first quarter, capping its run as a modern media company.
The Dallas telecom giant reported net gain of 691,000 postpaid phone lines for the three months ended March, beating the average target of 413,000 by Wall Street analysts polled by FactSet. Investors often value postpaid lines that represent reliable revenue from contract customers. Those phone calls, along with prepaid subscribers, surpassed 86 million at the end of March.
