Attacker Tottenham could sign and is now fighting for his career at the PL club, says Joe Cole

Joe Cole has claimed Tottenham transfer target Romelu Lukaku is ‘without a shadow of a doubt’ fighting for his Chelsea career. as he told ITV Sport.

On Sunday, as Chelsea reached another FA Cup final, Lukaku, who came on as a substitute, missed another chance at guilt.

Since his record-breaking return to Stamford Bridge, the 28-year-old has struggled to regain the form he showed in winning the Serie A title in Inter Milan colors last season with Antonio Conte.

Well, if he were to leave Chelsea this summer there are suggestions Tottenham could be his most likely destination and a possible Conte reunion – it would no doubt be quite a surprise.

But that’s the last thing on Chelsea’s £97.5million signing as Cole pondered what went wrong for him.

“Without a doubt (playing for his Chelsea career),” said Cole. “When he came to the club at the start of the season people thought he was the missing piece of the puzzle.

“This target man. It didn’t happen to him. He has an injury. It just escaped him.

“But it can come back as fast as it can go. If he scores against Real Madrid last week. If he scores (against Palace in the FA Cup semi-final) to take us to the cup final, he could start in the final.

“And suddenly things can look rosy. Football can change in a game. But he has to change it.”

Under normal circumstances it’s a big no, Tottenham, to buy any of Chelsea’s players, especially when they’ve paid so much money.

But with Conte in the dugout, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he manages to pull a rabbit out of a hat.

The Italian is sure to have some pull over the summer, it just depends on how much and who he can lure onto the Hotspur Way.

Spurs have Harry Kane on their books and will feel like someone like Lukaku isn’t needed, but crazier things have happened in football.
