A newborn baby is sleeping.

The Bachelorette fans weren’t expecting the big news a former star broke on social media this week, but they’re excited nonetheless. Emily Maynard Johnson welcomed a new baby, but little did Bachelor Nation fans know she was even pregnant again. Not only was the baby’s birth a surprise, but he was also born with some serious health issues that even Maynard didn’t anticipate.

Here’s what you need to know:

Emily Maynard Johnson and husband Tyler Johnson have another boy

On November 2, Maynard shared some family photos of her Instagram Side. The first photo showed her sitting outside on the grass next to her husband, surrounded by their children. What nobody expected in a photo like this was a newborn baby. The former “Bachelorette” explained: “SURPRISE! On 08/31StTyler and I welcomed our sweet son Jones West Johnson into the world.” She added, “During my surgery we learned he was born with Down Syndrome and while it certainly came as a surprise, we did much peace in God’s perfect plan and knowing that Jones will be a blessing to our family.”

Maynard’s baby Jones was in the NICU for a month after he was born, but he is now at home with the rest of the family. “He’s absolutely the icing on the cake,” gushed the former “Bachelorette” at the end of her caption. The other photos in her Instagram post featured various images of the newborn with his mother, siblings and from his early days in the hospital, and Maynard’s other children look happy to have a new baby in the family.

When fans first met Maynard on The Bachelor with Brad Womack, she already had daughter Ricki. None of her “Bachelor Nation” relationships lasted, but she found love near home. She’s always been very vocal about wanting lots of babies, and she’s definitely achieved that goal since marrying her husband, Tyler Johnson. In addition to Ricki, Maynard has sons Jennings Tyler, Gibson Kyle and Gatlin Avery, and another daughter, Magnolia Belle. Maynard’s caption that Jones is the icing on the cake seems to suggest he’s likely to complete her family.

“Bachelorette” fans showered Maynard with love and support

Maynard spoke to people about their new arrival. “I’m so grateful, but I’m still on my journey to process it all. And I have to have faith that everything will be fine.” In addition to being born with Down syndrome, Jones was diagnosed with a congenital colon anomaly. He had to have an operation shortly after he was born and will have another operation soon. The former “Bachelorette” noted that she chose not to have genetic testing during her pregnancy, and when she learned of Jones’ medical challenges, she was “in shock.” She explained: “It wasn’t on my radar at all. And I refused to believe it. I just wanted to hold him and make sure everything was okay.” As Maynard worked to meet her newborn’s challenges, her eldest daughter came forward with plenty of support. “When I was in the hospital, she sent me 47 roses to represent Jones’ 47 chromosomes,” she said of Ricki.

The mother-of-six immediately received tremendous support from fans. Quite a few mothers raising children with Down Syndrome commented on Maynard’s Instagram post, and they will surely offer her much comfort as she adjusts to her new reality.

“Congratulations mom! You are about to embark on a journey unlike any other. It really is such a blessing!! Our little girl is everything we never knew we needed.” divided a fan.

“CONGRATULATIONS!!! Welcome to the lucky few. Jones is absolutely perfect,” added Another.

“You impress me so much! They have the sweetest family and Jones is adorable.” raved someone else.

“A surprise indeed! Wow talk about keeping a secret lol. Congratulations Emily! Jones can not possible [sic] have a better bunch of older siblings to love and protect him,” another commented read.
