Barcelona know Liverpool would be willing to pay a hefty transfer price for Ronald Araujo this summer but want to announce he has signed a new contract before the end of April.

The centre-back has emerged as the star of the Catalan giants’ defense in recent years and may offer an option for the next decade. But his status has seen Barcelona rush to agree a new deal despite the knowledge that lucrative sums would be on the way in the next market.
Talks between Barcelona and Araujo previously collapsed when the La Liga side made lowball offers on personal terms. But the Camp Nou hierarchy resumed negotiations with an improved deal, opting for his value as the defender wants to stay in Catalonia.

Araujo is very appreciative of the efforts Barcelona showed to secure his services from Boston River in 2018. He’s also very comfortable at the club and in his role under boss Xavi Hernandez, who has additionally made great efforts to convince the 23-year-old of his future.

Barcelona are now hoping to announce that Araujo has extended his contract until 2026 before the end of April, ending Liverpool’s transfer hopes. Paperwork for his new deal is currently being formalized ahead of pen on paper and will include a €1bn (£828m) release clause.
There is a €200 million (£165.5m) clause in his current terms that Jurgen Klopp might have had to trigger this summer. In addition to Liverpool’s interest ABC Report Arsenal and Manchester United have offered Araujo a €8m-a-year (£127,000-a-week) contract to leave Barcelona this summer.
The Gunners and Red Devils offers were worth double the €4m a year (£63.5k a week) net that the Blaugrana had previously proposed. Still, none of the Premier League trios appear to welcome Araujo to England without paying Barcelona an unprecedented sum.
