Mark Lawrenson has shared that Antonio Conte would ‘absolutely love’ Tottenham’s recent games being postponed as it means more time on the training ground, as he told Football Focus.
The BBC pundit added if Spurs were able to train ‘most of the time’ over the past two weeks, it would allow Conte to get through ‘absolutely anything’ with his players.
Of course, Conte was appointed by Spurs in early November, after the club sacked Nuno Espirito Santo.
The Italian was brought straight into the limelight, where he had to execute his ideas without pre-season.
But in addition to that, he has faced a lot of disruptions, including game shutdowns because of snow and the COVID outbreak.
If Conte can really spend more time at Hotspur Way, then he will be able to execute his idea through a small pre-season as before, as Lawrenson mentioned.
“Well, that depends, are they trained or not?” Lawrence said. “If they have been practicing for the most part, then I bet Conte has absolutely loved it.
“He has because he has them on the training ground. He’s probably completely over the top. That could be a bonus for them. I think it’s a tough game for Liverpool.”
As things are going, Tottenham’s home game against Liverpool this afternoon will be before that, which will be music to the ears of the fans and all involved.
Match after game being sent off, not only the players and coaching staff in north London are frustrated with what has happened, but also the fans.
Depending on how the fans see it, being thrust into the limelight against Liverpool can be seen as an advantage or a disadvantage.
On the one hand, they have had time to rest and prepare, but their sharpness and physical strength are not there, so that can seriously hurt them.
Either way, all the answers will be out on the plate today.
