Best Call of Duty Maps of All Time – Ranked

There is no denying that Call of Duty is the most popular FPS franchise in gaming history. For the last two decades they have dominated the market with annual releases. With each new entry in the franchise bringing a dozen or more new maps, the list of memorable maps has grown significantly since the franchise’s inception. However, there are few of them that go down in history as the best Call of Duty maps of all time.

Top 10 Best Call of Duty Maps

10. The Pines (Black Ops Cold War)

The Pines, a 1980s shopping mall that pays homage to Back to the Future, was a late addition to Black Ops Cold War. However, it has found a way to stand out as one of the most memorable maps in the game. Brawling through the stores and hallways of a mall in its heyday is a special experience in itself, but this map’s many corridors, which propel all players into a confrontation at the fountain in the center of the map, made this so much fun.

9. Shoot House (Modern Warfare 2019)

Modern Warfare 2019 was a controversial title, with some players calling it the best game in years, while others criticized it for its small selection of poorly designed maps. Regardless of how you felt, players all seemed to agree that Shoothouse was a classic example of a great Call of Duty map. Its small and simple three-lane setup provided tons of fast-paced close-range action, while also offering a few long sightlines for those who preferred to take it slow and take out enemies from a distance.

8. Skyscraper (Modern Warfare 2)

Highrise is the card that arguably spawned Trickshots. This map is located on top of a building, with two taller skyscrapers on each side serving as spawn points. This made the map a haven for snipers. The crane at the edge of the building, which players could reach with a precise parkour, is where snipers would jump before doing a 360-degree tour and not targeting anyone on the roof.

7. Shooting Range (Black Ops)

Firing Range is a perfect example of how to pack tons of niceties into a small package. Firing Range is a fairly small map, but there is a wide variety of games that exist within it. There are long sightlines, high perches, up close buildings, and flank routes. All this against the background of a training ground helps to immerse the player in an almost airsoft-like battle, rather than a bloody war.

6. Raid (Black Ops 2)

No one would have thought that this seemingly normal map would go under as one of Call of Duty’s greatest, but it’s easy to see why once you play there. Raid features the typical three-lane setup seen on most great Call of Duty maps. Two outer lanes with long sightlines and easy access to the more claustrophobic center lane gave this map the perfect balance of game types fans love.

5. Crash (Modern Warfare)

No one can ever forget this battle for control of the three story building. This map is special as it really is the first sign of Call of Duty transitioning from the larger base maps to arena style maps. The map is a prime example of a fast-paced melee combat arena that is every bit as detailed and intricate as Call of Duty’s larger-scale maps.

4. Terminal (Modern Warfare 2)

Terminal is a universal fan favorite and quite possibly the most intriguing map in all of Call of Duty. Taking the fight to an airport terminal offers so many interesting combat situations. You can go out onto the tarmac and fight in an airplane, or you can go into the terminal and fight in the corridors and in the shops. There are long-range sniper spots and narrow corridors that add tremendous variety to this map that will keep this map fresh every time you play it.

3. Kidnapped (Black Ops 2)

If you didn’t find Terminal fascinating enough, you had to fall for Hijacked. The map takes place on a superyacht in the ocean. It’s one of the smallest maps on this list, and while it looks like a three-lane map, it feels more like a single-lane map. It features two main buildings on each side of the map and a large open space between them. The different paths between the three lanes and unrestricted line of sight contribute to making a game on this map chaotic.

2. Rust (Modern Warfare 2)

Rust is the map known for creating essentially 1v1s. Rust’s goal was to exist as a small map similar to Shipment in Modern Warfare while providing a viable 6v6 map option. The central tower adds verticality and control to the map. The high ground offered a bird’s-eye view of the entire map, but with virtually no cover. This made it easy to toss position back and forth between teams. Rust was also filled with tight crevices for players to hide in and traverse through, making this small map feel a lot bigger than it was.

1. Nuclear City (Black Ops)

Nuketown is easily the most iconic map in all of Call of Duty simply because it has been recreated countless times for newer titles. The fun environment and smile map layout make it easy to see why so many fans love it. The map is pretty much non-stop, fast-paced CQB action. However, there are still long-range options like the famous window-to-window or garage-to-backyard sniper positions. With five iterations of the map so far, it’s clear fans can’t get enough of their favorite suburban cul-de-sac.

So there you have it, these are our picks for the best Call of Duty maps of all time. It will be exciting to see if future Call of Duty games can bring us even more memorable maps, even though dethroning these classics will be difficult.
