Despite being primarily a Fire Emblem game, Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes is more of a core game of conquering the enemy than anything else. This means that in addition to the usual Fire Emblem tactics, you must use very special strategies for your plans: attack, seize, guard and defend. In this guide, we recommend some of the best units for defense.
What do defenders do in Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes?
While the ultimate mission goal is usually to capture enemy bases, you must not forget to defend the captured bases to prevent the mission from failing. That’s a defense attorney’s job.
Defenders don’t need high attack or magic as long as they’re resilient enough to tank an entire turn’s attack. Sure, it’s preferable if they did have the attack power to get rid of the attackers, but their main task is to defend a blue base adjacent to a red base until help comes. Armored Units or characters with a high base defense are the best defenders.

After chapter four, members of the Ashen Wolves will also gradually become available for recruitment. All of them make decent defenders. Jeralt can also fill this role once on the team.
However, also note that you are free to fit any character into a guard! Just make sure their HP and Defense stats are there so they can persevere. And just because they’re Wardens doesn’t mean they can’t fill other roles like squatters.
