There are still 71 days left before the Buffalo Bills take on the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium in the highly anticipated 2022 NFL season opening game on Thursday, September 8, and until then, team and team rankings The prediction model is just a prediction.
On Monday, June 27, Pro Football Focus shared an image on Twitter with analyst Mike Renner’s Top 10 ranking of second-places in the NFL, and the safety of Bills Jordan Poyer was raised an issue with his listing and sent two ratings-kicking tweets.

Renner has Buffalo’s sixth place, behind only the Miami Dolphins, while the Baltimore Ravens take the top spot. File 2 through 4, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Cleveland Browns, and Green Bay Packers.
In a corresponding article, Renner elaborated on the reasoning behind his ranking, noting that this classification was based on his assessment of Poyer, Micah Hyde, Tre’Davious White, Kaiir Elam and Taron Johnson.
Renner wrote, “A lot of the ways the Bills end up functioning as a thing depends on Tre’Davious White’s health after he tore his ACL last season. It also depends on how quickly first-round Kaiir Elam can adjust to the NFL game. That being said, Buffalo still has the most consistent safe duo in the NFL – both Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer took the top eight in this spot last season. “
The reaction on Twitter to Poyer’s PFF presentation was mixed
The reaction to Poyer laughing at Renner’s rankings was mixed, even in the Bills Mafia world. A man answered, “My friend, Bills fan since 85. Maybe sit there until you win the Superbowl. Many of us are still in pain after Pat, Travis & Tireek took you out. One stop is all you have to do. One stop. Humble. Go Bills! “
Other fans on the same page as Poyer. Person tweeted“Yeah, I don’t know why he has friends as tall as six years old 🏻♂️ The man must have his opinion tho,” while one Buffalo Rumblings contributor commented, “They’re bored of you. This is the dead part of the off-season. They need participation 😂,” which Poyer answered, “Look! 🤣. “
PFF contributor EJ Daniels defended his colleague. “This list is more than fair!” Daniels tweeted.
Other Bills fans love that the PFF is sleeping on top of Bufffalo’s rankings, hoping these rankings will only inspire the team. “I’m so glad my boys see this stupid trick,” one fan tweetedwhile another person urge“Now unleash your fury on the tournament!”
Bill still has one of the top rated defenses going into next season
The Bills’ defense as a whole, which was ranked #1 last season, is predicted to continue to dominate into 2022.
CBS Sports analyst Jared Dubin ranked the defenses on how likely they are to finish the year in the league’s Top 10 and ranked the Bills in the “Most Likely” category, along with the Rams and New Orleans Saints.
“Buffalo finished last season with DVOA, EPA per play, yards per play and points per drive, then added Von Miller to a deep pool of fast runners,” Dubin wrote. “Even with Tre’Davious White potentially missing part of his ACL tear re-season, the Bills seem to be a near-lock to having a top defence.”
Bleacher Report’s Alex Ballentine wrote after the 2022 NFL Draft that the Bills have the best defence, for the exact same reasons Dubin gave:
Whatever metric you want to look at, Invoices were probably #1 last year. DVOA, FPI, score per game, measure per play… no matter, Bills’ defense is the best. Now add Von Miller to replace Jerry Hughes and put rookie winger Kaiir Elam up against Tre’Davious White and you have the 2022 version of the Bills defense. The addition of an elite passer to an already top-tier defense separated this unit from the rest of the group…. As long as Elam has a successful rookie season and Von Miller continues to play at a high level, this defense will be the best in the NFL.
