Billy Joel cancels Madison Square Garden performance ‘by doctor’s order’ due to viral infection

Billy Joel delivered a bitter note to his fans on Sunday when he canceled his December 19 concert at New York’s Madison Square Garden.

The Piano Man explained on social media that he had to cancel due to illness.

“I am disappointed to report that I am on medical order from vocal rest due to a viral infection, so unfortunately I have to postpone my Monday, December 19th concert at Madison Square Garden until June,” said the 73-year-old Grammy winner explained.

The singer’s website, BillyJoel.com, said the new date would be June 2, but that too could change if there’s a conflict with a playoff game.

Both the New York Knicks and New York Rangers call MSG home, and although the regular season for basketball and hockey ends in April, the playoffs for both sports could extend into June.
