Blake Shelton is ‘shattered’ after casting last ‘The Voice’ team

Blake Shelton’s last “The Voice” team has been cast, and the coach was a little shaken after getting his last artist to join his team.

During the Tuesday, March 21, 2023 episode of the show, Shelton pushed his button for the last time. He and Niall Horan both turned to audition for 19-year-old Grace West.

West performed “Maybe It Was Memphis” by Pam Tills and she impressed the judges. In a hilarious twist, Horan was dressed as Shelton for the final taping of the blind auditions. Horan called the teen’s voice “impeccable” and applauded her storytelling skills.

“I would be honored if you were the last person I would ever push that well-worn button for,” Shelton said in his pitch to the artist.

Kelly Clarkson, who usually works against Shelton, added: “I believe in you, I can’t wait to see what you do on the show. And I can’t believe I’m doing this, but it’s his last season, I’ll say Blake is a great coach for you. …I love Niall! I’ll be honest with you, Niall nailed it.”

She added, “But I’ve also known Blake for years and he’s the guy who really helps artists.”

Since it was his last time turning for an artist, Shelton was a little emotional after West chose him to coach. He also got a standing ovation from the audience after filling his team.

“I gotta tell you, I’m sitting here talking about Grace right now, but my heart swells just thinking about my journey on this show,” Blake said backstage to the cameras after the selection. “Twenty-three seasons and for the last artist I pushed that button for [the last time]I didn’t put up with it, I didn’t show any emotion, but I was shaken up a bit.”

Shelton later revealed, “I knew that if I went into it, I would try to capture all of those moments. It goes by so quickly, so saying that out loud made it real.”

The next step for The Voice artists is to transition to the Battle Rounds. This is how the teams look in this round of the competition:

After the fighting rounds, the remaining artists compete in the knockout rounds where they are mentored by Reba McEntire. Then the remaining artists compete for a spot in the live semifinals and finals, voted on by America.
