For season 22, Shelton joins trainers Gwen Stefani, John Legend and new trainer Camila Cabello.

During an interview with Extra! TV Ahead of the season 22 premiere, Shelton spoke about the possibility of leaving The Voice.

“Every season is different,” he began. “They’re different. The second you throw in a new persona, it’s a completely different dynamic. It’s all together another show. Because you can have something going with the four coaches that worked together, but you change one thing and it messes up everything you think you’ve found out about the show.

He added: “Camila screwed up again this year. It’s like starting over every time, you know, and as long as they have these home shopping channels and I can look at them and come up with new ideas to sell the same crap over and over again, I’m prepared.”

He said he takes leads from people who sell things like rolls of tape on the shopping network.

Shelton previously shared that he hopes going off the road is “not too far.”

In an interview with Hoda Kotb when he was hospitality “Today With Hoda & Jenna” on March 31, 2021, Shelton hinted at when he might consider leaving the show for good and officially retiring from the Hollywood scene altogether, which would also include “The Voice.”

Shelton has been open about his dislike of the Hollywood lifestyle in the past, and in some cases has even taken the time to diss fellow trainers for enjoying it.

Kotb asked him if he and his fiancé, Gwen Stefani, were “right out in Oklahoma; not jetting everywhere…just living a simpler life looking far, far down the road?

Shelton had an interesting response to Kotb, including that he doesn’t want to wait a decade to get to this point.

“I hope that’s not too far away,” he told her. “Ten years sounds far too long to me. I would like to see that sooner rather than later.”

He added: “I mean, we’ve both pretty much pushed the envelope in terms of our careers and touring and now the TV thing. It was fortunate to achieve many things. But hopefully we’ll get a chance to have a little life at some point.”
