Block winner Ozman ‘Oz’ Abu Malik’s little-known last name has been revealed

Ozman ‘Oz’ Abu Malik has become a household name after winning The Block with his best pal Omar Slaimankhel on Sunday night.

But fans might be surprised to learn that “Abu Malik” isn’t actually Oz’s last name, it’s actually just a nickname meaning “father of Malik” — referring to his eldest son.

The building maintenance manager’s real last name is Said, Daily Mail Australia can reveal.

In Arabic tradition, “Abu” is a common nickname, usually followed by the name of a person’s firstborn son, but it can also be used more colloquially.

Oz, who hails from western Sydney, has been using the name since he was announced as a candidate for The Block.

It is understood that “Abu Malik” is what close family and friends call him.

Ozman Abu Malik is also the name he uses on his social media accounts.

During his time on the show, Oz and teammate Omar, who are both married with children, expressed concern that young Aussies misperceive them and said they were keen on showing the Australian Muslim community in a positive light to represent.

Because of this, they confronted foreman Dan Reilly mid-season about being casually called “shady” on the job site.

“We really don’t want to sit on TV and our family and friends watch this, and another million or so people, and they’re like, ‘These two damn kings on the show are all dodgy season,'” Oz explained.

During his time on the show, Oz and teammate Omar, who are both married with children, expressed concern that young Aussies misperceive them and said they were keen on showing the Australian Muslim community in a positive light to represent

“The word ‘shady’ comes out a fair bit, which is totally against what Oz and I do,” Omar said.

“We were very grateful to be on a show to express ourselves and just the fact that you guys keep bringing that up [word] which will most likely be played on TV and it will just look like “two w*** doing dodgy s**t on TV again” and that part is the most hurtful part for us.

Omar, who grew up in New Zealand after arriving as a refugee from Afghanistan at the age of three, added that both he and Oz experienced racism growing up and that many young Australians see the country as “completely racist ” feel.
