Blood and Honey is already a box office success, despite terrible reviews

When the Winnie-the-Pooh property entered the public domain in the United States in 2022, no one expected that one of the first non-Disney uses of the property would be for an extremely gory slasher film. Well that happened. Much less did the world think the film would be a financial success. Well, that happened too. So far only released in Mexico, Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey is already a box office success, despite terrible reviews.
It is well known that in Hollywood a film has to gross more than double its budget to be considered a financial success; Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey has achieved this at least ten times. The film’s production companies, Jagged Edge Productions and ITN Studios, haven’t revealed the exact budget cost for the film, but they did say it was less than $100,000, according to a Variety report.
With just its release in Mexico, Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey has already grossed over $1,000,000, grossing at least 10 times its budget and an additional $700,000 domestically on day one. Needless to say, a Blood and Honey sequel is already in the works. Money speaks, although there are probably some people who are against it.
Many might not believe a sequel is warranted, as reviews trickle in and almost unanimously declare Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey a rather horrific film. It’s not like anyone expected anything Shakespearean from a film built largely out of the hoax of making a gritty take on an estate primarily associated with Disney, with more on the way, though Film critics expected at least a little more quality to accompany the camp. There’s always next time.
Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey is now in theaters in select territories through April 1, 2023 and will be available for streaming on April 24, 2023.
