Boulder RTD station bathrooms have been closed due to meth contamination

Traces of methamphetamine were found in the bathrooms and in a hallway at the downtown Boulder RTD station, forcing the areas to be closed as a safety precaution.
Recent reports of a “strong odor” from the restroom area at the station, 1800 14th St., prompted an investigation and testing that confirmed levels of meth or “like substances exceed the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention limits,” according to the report a press release from RTD.
“For the safety of its customers and staff, the agency has closed the toilets and adjacent hallway and they remain closed and inaccessible until the sanitation can be carried out,” RTD said in a press release. “Additional areas may be closed if further testing reveals potentially harmful pollutant levels.”
The Boulder Public Library closed December 20 due to methamphetamine contamination. The library gradually reopened last week after refurbishment efforts. A contractor found that the highest levels of contamination in the library were in public restrooms.
