Around 1:00 a.m. Eastern Time, it was announced on Ronnie Hillman’s Instagram page that the former Denver Broncos running back had passed away. He was just 31 years old.

Some of Hillman’s former teammates, including Brandon Marshall and CJ Anderson, have already expressed their condolences on social media.

According to the New York Post, Hillman was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in August and was treated for his illness.

Hillman finished the season with a career-high 863 rushing yards, seven touchdowns and 111 yards receiving. Hillman had a two-touchdown performance against the Green Bay Packers and had a season-best 117 yards in the season finale against the San Diego Chargers.

Drafted in the 3rd round of the 2012 NFL Draft, Hillman spent four years with the Broncos before playing for the Minnesota Vikings and the Chargers.
