When Ayo Dosunmu made his ninth shot in Monday’s 111-110 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder, he made history again for the Chicago Bulls.

The shot was not only his ninth attempt but also his ninth. Before Dosunmu, no Bulls rookie had ever started a 9-for-9 game from the pitch.

Not Dosunmu’s first record

The 22-year-old rookie shed tears this season, score at elite efficiencydefensively in high form and made it difficult for head coach Billy Donovan to get him out of the squad.

In fact, Dosunmu has played so well, this is not even the first record he has set this year.

Just over a week ago, Dosunmu became the first rookie to score 20 points, have 10 assists and connect over 90% of his shots in a single match.

Monday’s achievement represents the second record for Dosunmu tied to efficiency.

In seasonDosunmu is taking 54.5% of his total shots, including 45.1% from downtown, making him not only the most effective rookie in the league but a player overall.

Learn from teammates

The rookie seems to have learned the habit from his All-Star teammates Zach LaVine and DeMar DeRozan, especially in regards to shot picking.

When DeRozan had to take a break, Dosunmu comfortably moved into DeRozan’s mid-range, stable, mimicking the veteran’s production through a series of pull-ups.

Only thing, Dosunmu doesn’t settle there. Taking a page out of LaVine’s book, the rookie also took it from behind the three-point line, hit 4/6 from rangefinished with 24 points, the highest in his career.

At one point, Dosunmu even poked defender Lonzo Ball with a long, nearly eye-popping pass, demonstrating once and for all how he’s learned from his veteran teammates.

While the former Illinois production may not get tons of headlines this season, he’s not been instrumental in developing Chicago’s depth. If Bulls Live Up to Fulfillment Expectations fifth on Finals oddsthey will need him. Breakthrough record for rookies wins Bulls’ 40 year old record
