Brianna Ghey: Trial date set for teenager accused of murder
A 15-year-old girl and 15-year-old boy from Warrington and Leigh appeared at Liverpool Crown Court this morning after being charged by detectives yesterday, Wednesday.
The trial begins July 10 and a hearing is scheduled for May.
the girl and the boy, who cannot be named for legal reasonsappeared at Chester Magistrates’ Court yesterday, Wednesday.
The teens, who appeared on separate video links from juvenile detention centers and were both accompanied by an adult, spoke to confirm their names and dates of birth.
The girl’s parents and the boy’s mother were in the stands at the hearing, which lasted just under half an hour, and both mothers appeared in tears.
Judge David Aubrey KC set a hearing date for July 10, with the case expected to last about three weeks.
He transferred them both to a juvenile detention center before a plea and trial hearing on May 2.
During Wednesday’s hearing, prosecutor Leanne Gallagher described the attack as a “premeditated, brutal and punitive assault.”
Last Saturday, Brianna, a 16-year-old from Birchwood, was found with multiple stab wounds on a path in Culcheth Linear Park. Unfortunately, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The two suspects were arrested in connection with Sunday’s incident.
