Britain’s 50 best fish and chip takeaways revealed – so your favorite makes the list?

The UK’s best fish and chip shops were revealed today after a secret taste test.

Fry Awards announced their top 50 takeaways and top ten restaurants in the UK.

The list, now in its 11th year, is being drawn up after judges went unannounced to the premises and secretly inspected the quality of the food.

Criteria also include cleanliness of premises, knowledge of staff, value for money, ease of ordering and social media presence – including extra points for those who have launched an ordering app.

To receive an award, shops had to score at least 95 percent for takeaways and 92 percent or more for restaurants.

Reece Head, organizer of the competition, said: “We have had yet another year where running a fish and chip business has simply become more difficult as rising energy, labor and ingredient costs take a heavy toll .

“It’s not easy, but operators are working harder and smarter, staying ahead of changing preferences and behaviors and adapting accordingly.

“While the profits aren’t in the fish and chips like in previous years, the passion certainly is.

‘And our awards are a testament to the hard work, dedication and dedication these operators have put into running successful businesses.’

Mr Head said they are seeing stores introducing different things to appeal to a wider customer base.

These include vegan and gluten-free options, self-service kiosks, and online ordering apps to make serving easier.

You’re also seeing investment in new fryers to produce better quality fish and chips, and owners using social media to connect with and reach more customers.

In addition to the 10 Best Takeaways, the Fry Awards also announced the 10 Best Fish and Chip Restaurants (above).

He continued, “The companies that make up our 50 Best Fish & Chips Joints and 10 Best Fish & Chips Restaurants represent the best in the business.

“They push forward without losing sight of what makes Chippy so ingrained in British culture – high quality, great value food, with great customer service and a welcoming environment.”
