British couple need rescue after motorhome gets stuck on tiny southern Spanish roads

This is the moment a road trip through Spain turned into a road to nowhere for an unlucky British couple who discovered Andalucian villages weren’t designed for modern motorhomes.
The middle-aged holidaymaker’s stopover in picturesque Sorvilán, a village of 614 people south of Granada, turned into a nightmare they won’t soon forget.
A tow truck and local police had to come to their rescue after their vehicle got stuck between two houses while trying to find a way out of the village.
It is believed the couple failed to spot a sign warning drivers with large vehicles to avoid the center and got stuck in a traffic jam after crossing streets that were becoming increasingly narrow.
Her ordeal began around 9:30 a.m. Saturday and her RV was not freed until about four hours later.

It is not possible to park there: the mobile home was jammed next to a no parking sign in a tight curve
Luckily, the unnamed couple were able to continue their journey, albeit with damage to the vehicle and the wall of one of the houses they accidentally got trapped between.
Local police officer Jose Rivas said: “They were passing through the village and never intended to stay that long.
“A tow truck had to be called and all they could do was sit around and wait while we tried to extricate the motorhome.
“They didn’t speak much Spanish and it wasn’t really the kind of situation where we would go into detail about where they came from and where they went because they were obviously upset about what had happened.
“But it seemed like they were touring the Costa del Sol and southern Spain and they obviously didn’t see a sign on the way to the center of the village warning people not to drive large vehicles through the narrow streets.
“We’re talking about roads that were laid out when people used donkey carriages and weren’t designed for the kind of vehicles that got stuck on Saturday.
“The process to get it loose basically involved using a jack to lift it up and slide it out of where it was stuck. There was no other possible solution.
“The camper might have gotten through the gap if it was going straight, but it came from an angle and although the front half got through, the back half was slightly wider and wedged tightly.”
One of the photos of the unfortunate couple showed them sitting with their heads in their hands next to their trapped vehicle before the rescue operation began in the village of just over 500 people, a short drive from the south coast of the province of Granada called the Costa Tropical.
Mr Rivas added: “Fortunately no one was injured but there was obvious material damage.
“The side of the RV near the driver’s door was fairly badly damaged, but the vehicle was still drivable.
“I don’t know if the British couple came to see the church which is one of the sights here, or a pretty fountain we have, or a museum which is closed at the moment but will be back soon after a restoration opened will work.
“But I hope this experience doesn’t stop them from going back again. You just have to be careful where you drive your motorhome.
“It’s the first time in my year of service that I’ve dealt with something like this.
“You have to watch out for things like that not only in Sorvilán, but in all the villages in the area.”

A tiny outpost in southern Spain, the village of Sorvilán is home to just 614 residents
In the south of Spain there are cities that date back to the 8th century BC. dating back.
Many are designed only for pedestrians and small animal-drawn carts.
Narrower streets are also helping Spain’s cities stay cool.
In 2021, temperatures of up to 117.7 F (47.6 C) have been recorded in Cordoba, Andalusia.
