Britney Spears’ former makeup artist opens up about the singer’s breakdown in 2008

The former Britney Spears makeup artist has opened up about the singer’s highly publicized breakup in 2008, saying the “light” has gone from her eyes.

Julianne Kaye, who started as Britney’s makeup artist when she was just 23, has spoken out about how she feels the pressures of fame have changed her friend.

Britney, 41, suffered a public breakdown in 2008 after checking out of rehab when she shaved her head and attacked paparazzi with an umbrella.

Speaking about that time in Britney’s life when the conservatory was first established, Julianne said she was shocked that the star was still singing and working on stage.

“She had her publicized breakdown and when I saw her on X Factor or any other show she was doing it was like the lights were on but nobody was home,” she told The Mirror.

‘I thought, ‘That’s not Britney’, I thought, ‘If someone just had a complete nervous breakdown, why is he going back to work?’ She never looked like herself again.”

Britney recently marked one year old Anniversary of the end of her 13-year conservatory to Instagram to rant about her estranged father Jamie, whom she is currently suing for abuse by conservators.

Addressing the conservatory, Julianne said the “light” in Britney’s eyes has faded over the course of 13 years and said she still cares “very deeply” for the star.

“Britney was a big star, but during conservatory the light that was shining so bright was gone, you could see it in her eyes,” she added.

Speaking about the pressures of fame, Julianne claimed that Britney loved performing but struggled in the spotlight and just “wanted to be normal.”

She went on to claim that she snuck in with Britney during her tour, with the global superstar disguising herself in wigs to avoid being recognized.

MailOnline has reached out to Britney’s rep for comment.

Her comments come after Britney deactivated her Instagram account for the sixth time and the third time in the last four months.

The Toxic hitmaker deactivated her account again shortly after questions surfaced as to whether or not Britney herself actually has control of her account.

The questions were raised when Spears wrote about her estranged sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, sharing a sweet message with her long-estranged sister.

Many believe an encrypted message to an unnamed celebrity was addressed to Jamie, with some speculating that the sweet message was actually sent by someone on her team.

She kept her Twitter account active but didn’t give fans on the platform an update as to why she deleted Instagram again.

She previously deleted Instagram just weeks earlier in mid-November after refusing to join husband Sam Asghari for an Instagram Live session.

“I don’t want to step in, I have nothing to say. I don’t want to speak to them now,” she said in the live session just before deactivation, but as before, she was reactivated just days later.

She also disabled in mid-October after ranting about how her family had treated her during her 15-year conservatorship.

“My dad always told me I was so fat! I never felt pretty or good enough, and I think the thing that made me feel UGLIEST was the FEAR of being scared of what he was going to do…I looked awkward, unattractive, not in my skin” , she said.

Adding that her dad made her feel like “less than a f***ing dog,” Britney added, “I pray you burn in hell you sad son of Ab***h!!!”

She also deactivated Instagram in late August when she left fans a message on Twitter revealing why she had deleted her account.

“I’m learning new things every day to try to be a better person and to do what makes me happy…yes, I’m choosing happiness today,” she said.

“I tell myself every day to let go of hurt bitterness and try to forgive myself and others for what may have hurt.”

“I pray that the Holy Spirit is indeed true, and I hope that Spirit will be with my children as well,” she said of her sons Sean Preston, 17, and Jayden James, 16.

She added that she was “overwhelmed” by the release of her song Hold Me Closer featuring Elton John, her first new song in six years.

Her husband Asghari has not yet publicly commented on her deactivation from Instagram, but he previously confirmed that Britney controlled her Instagram and was responsible for the content on her page.
