Brittany Higgins’ fiancé is offering her white dress to the Austraila Museum of Democracy

The white dress worn by Brittany Higgins to a feminist rally outside Parliament House could soon become a permanent fixture in the Museum of Australian Democracy’s collection.

Ms Higgins wore British label Reiss’ $475 white Farah-belted utility pocket dress as she delivered an impassioned speech in front of 5,000 on March 15, 2021 at a March 4, 2021 women’s rally.

It came just a month after she first publicly claimed that “a male colleague” raped her two years earlier in the parliamentary office of then Defense Industry Secretary Linda Reynolds.

“If it can happen in Parliament House, it can happen anywhere,” she told the roaring crowd.

The colleague in question was later identified as Bruce Lehrmann, who pleaded not guilty in a jury trial two years later. He has always maintained his innocence.

Daily Mail Australia can now reveal that the dress has been offered to the Museum of Australian Democracy in Old Parliament House in Canberra to become part of its collection.

The donation is understood to have been sent to the museum by Ms Higgins’ fiancé, David Sharaz.

The couple were pictured with their dog in Brisbane on Saturday. They met Mr Sharaz’s mother before going to a sushi restaurant for lunch.

The outfit “consists of a semi-sheer shirt top and falls into a matching silhouette with a midi-length utilitarian belt,” according to the Reiss website, which recently listed it for $112 — down from $475. Dollar.

A spokesman for the museum confirmed that the outfit “goes through the standard collection acquisition process.”

“We are frequently offered objects relating to events in Australia’s democratic history,” the spokesman said.

“The Women’s March for Justice is part of that story and the dress was worn during that event.”

If accepted, Ms Higgins’ dress would sit alongside other items in the collection – including the red satin block heels worn by former Foreign Secretary Julie Bishop when she resigned from Malcolm Turnbull’s cabinet in 2018.

While most of the protesters at the March 4 justice rally wore mourning black, the former Liberal staffer stood out from the crowd in suffragette white.

Her fashion choices echoed those of former Australia Post CEO Christine Holgate, who wore a white blazer as she called for an end to workplace bullying during a Senate inquiry into her controversial departure.

During her speech in 2021, Ms Higgins shot the former Morrison government for allegedly failing to protect them following her allegations and urged victims of attacks to “speak up”.

“Take ownership of your story and break free from the stigma of shame,” she said.

Other speakers included Lisa Wilkinson, who interviewed Ms Higgins about The Project when she first aired her rape allegations.

Although Mr. Lehrmann was not initially identified as an alleged rapist of Ms. Higgins during her initial allegations against The Project and in a News Corp article in February 2021, he was named more than a year later when he was charged with sexual assault.

Mr. Lehrmann was tried by the jury in a month-long trial in the ACT Supreme Court in October last year, but the case was dropped because of misconduct by a jury member.

The ACT director of prosecutions then dropped the matter entirely, citing concerns about Ms Higgins’ mental health.

The former Liberal staffer filed a lawsuit against the Commonwealth in December, but the matter was settled privately.

On Monday, Ms Higgins hit back at claims she gained more than $3million from the settlement – claiming the payment was far less in an explosive Twitter post.
