The Cleveland Browns have signed quarterback Josh Rosen, adding him to the fourth quarterback on the roster as they begin training camp.

Rosen will join Deshaun Watson, Jacoby Brissett and Joshua Dobbs on the depth chart. It is thought Rosen will compete with Dobbs for the back-up job behind Brissett if Watson goes out with a suspension. However, the Browns are still waiting to see how long the QB ban will last.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter first reported Rosen’s signature by the Browns.

“Despite spending time with five other NFL teams, Rosen is only 25 years old and those around him believe he’s ready to prove he belongs,” Schefter tweeted.

After being selected by the Cardinals with a 10th overall pick in the 2018 draft, Rosen failed to find a permanent home in the NFL. He’s played for five different teams since his enlistment, most recently as supporter Matt Ryan in Atlanta.

Rosen won 3-10 starting in Arizona as a rookie, launching 11 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. He was replaced by Kyler Murray – who just signed a major extension – the following year and has moved since.

Dobbs, a former Steelers fourth-round player, has completed just 10 of his 17 career dribbles for 45 yards and one interception. Rosen brings a bit more experience in the game and has been around the likes of Tom Brady and Matt Ryan during his good travels the past few years.

The Browns’ Reshaped QB Room in Reason

The Browns’ move is the latest in midfield during a busy season. They made a controversial move in exchange for Watson this season and have also traded for former starter Baker Mayfield and his backup Case Keenum. Shortly after submitting three first-round draft picks to Watson, Cleveland offered him a new, fully-guaranteed, five-year, $230 million contract.

The big question for the Browns is how long Watson will be out as they seek to create an attack around him. If he is sidelined for any length of time, it is clear that Brissett will be the starter.

“I really trust Jacoby,” Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said on June 14 at the mandatory minicamp. “He’s played a lot of football for a young player. He is a smart player. He takes care of football. Good size, can do all the throws and that. He committed many crimes. Our offense was a little bit different from what he did before but had a really, really good understanding of football – i.e. football intelligence – so I just thought he is a really good operator. “

Brissett was only 14-23 years old when he started in the NFL but will have a stellar supporting cast around him, including Nick Chubb and Amari Cooper. He will also work behind one of the best attacking lines in football.

Browns appear in rumors for other QBs

The signing of Rosen will stop the rumors from spreading about the full-back the Browns have joined since the end of last season.

Cleveland has been pivoted as a reasonable landing spot for the San Francisco 49ers Jimmy Garoppolo has shipped via trade and former MVP Cam Newton has also been mentioned as a possibility. Unless an injury occurs, the Browns should be set up for camp and pre-season.

The Browns will open camp on July 27. They will face Jaguars, Eagles, and Bears last season. Browns Add quarterback Josh Rosen after training
