Bryson DeChambeau Had Wrist Surgery, Condition For PGA Championship In Question

Bryson DeChambeau had left wrist surgery on Thursday, writing on Instagram that he hopes to return to the PGA Tour within the next two months.

DeChambeau said Dr. Thomas Graham, an orthopedic surgeon at Kettering Health in Ohio, performed surgery to repair a broken hook of the hamate bone in his left wrist.

DeChambeau wrote: “Over the past few months, my team, Dr. Graham and myself have been monitoring a fracture of the hamate bone in my left wrist. “I’ve struggled to overcome this injury at three recent events, including the Masters, but this is usually an injury that requires surgical treatment. Due to the ongoing discomfort from the fracture, it changed my grip and rotation, resulting in my inability to compete at the highest level of golf, which was not easy for me both physically and mentally. “

DeChambeau, 28, missed out at last week’s Masters, the first major tournament of the season, after scoring a total of 12 goals in the first two rounds. He dropped to 19th in the Official World Golf Ranking and 217th in FedEx Cup points. He has missed three of his past four overall starts and has only broken into the top 25 once in five starts this season.

DeChambeau’s readiness for the next big tournament, the PGA Championship at Southern Hills Golf Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma, May 19-22, now appears to be in doubt.

“For now, I will be taking the appropriate time to rest and recuperate from this procedure and look forward to competing at the highest level within the next two months,” DeChambeau said. “Thank you to my family, teammates, partners and supporters throughout this difficult journey, but I’m delighted to be working hard to get back to playing soon.” Bryson DeChambeau Had Wrist Surgery, Condition For PGA Championship In Question
