Buccaneers knock out Richard Sherman for Playoffs

Buccaneers Qualifiers

Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians wanted more in defence.

Richard Sherman’s part with Tampa Bay Buccaneers ended when the team announced the corner was once again on the Injured Subs list. Under normal circumstances, this move would normally mean that Sherman could return as early as the post-season period of the Super Bowl as IR players are required to be absent for at least three weeks.

However, ESPN’s Jenna Laine covered the news that Sherman will miss the entire knockout round due to NFL rules as this is his second time in IR this season.

“Because this is his second time in IR, Sherman will not be returning this season, per league rules,” Laine detailed on Jan. 11. “He will, however, be at with the team throughout the post-season, continuing to support the defensive defenders who have largely benefited from his presence since joining the team in Week 4, with some of them they affectionately called him ‘Coach Sherm.’

It’s not bad news for the Bucs as the team has activated star defender Shaq Barrett from the COVID-19 roster. This puts Barrett on track to take on the Eagles in the Buccaneers’ opening playoff game.

Sherman credits Brady for deciding to sign with Bucs

Sherman isn’t the only key Bucs player facing a significant injury to advance to the knockout stages. The status of stars like Leonard Fournette and Lavonte David remains uncertain as the Wild Card round approaches.

Sherman initially joined the Buccaneers in September to help the team while the team was dealing with numerous high school age injuries. The Pro Bowl corner five times admitted that the former opponent Tom Brady’s Recruitment stamped its decision to join Tampa Bay.

“Tampa is like the most aggressive, Tom really gets called and once he calls it’s like you should come or you will regret not coming,” Sherman recalls his conversation with his wife during the press conference on September 29. “That’s what it sounded like, so that definitely came into the conversation, and she was right on board. I think she thinks this will give me the best chance to do what I love and play at a high level and have the opportunity to chase titles. ”

Sherman will once again be a free agent this season, but it remains to be seen whether the corner plans to continue playing. He has faced multiple injuries since arriving in Tampa before eventually being placed on the Injury Reserve.
