Todd Bowles takes over as the new head coach of the Buccaneers.

The depth of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back could mean that Giovani Bernard may not make the final list. ESPN’s Jenna Laine suggested that Bernard “could be disqualified” depending on the progress of rookie runner Rachaad White in training camp.

“With Leonard Fournette on the bench, Ke’Shawn Vaughn’s improvement and the Bucs picking Rachaad White in the third round of the NFL draft, where does that leave Bernard?” Laine wrote on July 6, 2022. “He’ll be 31 in November, and he’s caught 23 123-yard passes and has 58 javelins eight times more than he did last year. If White integrates into the Bucs system quickly and repeatedly can get a flash, Bernard can be eliminated.

Jones’ Departure paves the way for Fournette to become Bucs 3-Down RB

With the departure of Ronald Jones to become Chiefs in free agency, the path is clear for Leonard Fournette to become the Bucs top driver in 2022. Even though Fournette was Tampa Bay’s RB1 in previous years, Jones still Engage in offense and compete to touch . White is tipped to potentially kick off his NFL career as many people go back down could be a threat to Bernard’s future with the team. That may have been the plan, but it didn’t stop White from aiming to regain the Bucs lead.

“What I expected from the Buccaneers, I knew they would put me in a great situation, a great position,” explained White in a May 4 interview on “The Jim Rome Show.” “My expectation, my goal is that I will go in there to play. I want to be the one to start running again. That’s the way it goes. I knew I had Lenny in front of me. I will absorb a lot of knowledge from Lenny and the person running to the room, Giovani Bernard. I’m the type of guy, but I’m always a competitor first.

“I’m just doing my job. Whatever my coach needs me to do, anything Tom [Brady] need me to do. I’m just there to do my job. Like I said, be the best you can be, be the smartest. I know Tom can help me slow down the game. I can learn a lot from him even though we play in different positions. I can understand only how to be better in certain areas, certain areas. “

Fournette: ‘I have to lose weight’

Bernard signed a one-year, $1.27 million contract with the Bucs this season. The veteran running back originally joined the Buccaneers last season and is expected to be a favorite target for Tom Brady, especially when it comes to passing down.

Bernard had a shaky first season in Tampa as the return runner struggled to get on the field in just eight competitions in 2021. The Bucs ran back with eight 58-yard runs and 23 tackles. 123 yards and three touchdowns in 2021.

As for Fournette, the backrunner will need to get in better shape if he is to be a true third-back this season. During the minicamp, Fournette admitted that he was looking to lose some weight before starting training camp.

“Well, I was here with the AP, just training and stuff like that,” Fournette noted during a June 7 press conference. “Obviously I haven’t lost weight, this has always been [up] during the summer. We always make my weight go up, though it will come back down. … I was running like 23 [miles per hour] in college, so that’s why I had to lose weight to get back to where I wanted to be. It’s definitely one of my goals right now to play at a weight I’m comfortable with. … I’m 240 now. So it’s definitely 230, 228 [is] Definitely my range. “
