The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are making another big list.
As reported by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero on Friday, April 1, the Buccaneers re-signed Giovani Bernard to a one-year contract. Bernard played a key role for Tampa Bay last season, primarily as a third full-back.
“Bucs have agreed terms with RB Giovani Bernard on a one-year contract,” said Pelissero. “Bernard had many offers, but chose to return to Tampa. One of Tom Brady’s other favorites is back above the fold. ”
According to ESPN’s Jenna Laine, Bernard will earn $1.12 million — along with a $152,500 signing bonus — with a salary cap of just under $1.05 million.
Bernard’s role with the Buccaneers
The 30-year-old back-runner appeared in 12 games, dashing forward eight times in 58 yards, catching 23 123-yard passes and three touchdowns. With Bernard’s re-signing, Tampa Bay will bring both Leonard Fournette and Ke’Shawn Vaughn back, which means Bernard is very likely to become the third player to return for a second consecutive season.
Bernard was limited due to a hip injury he picked up in Week 14. However, he returned in time for the Bucs’ post-season run, dashing for 44 meters and touching down 13 take and Catch five passes in 39 metres.
The re-run veteran spent the first eight seasons of his career with the Cincinnati Bengals, appearing in 115 games with 30 starts.

Buccaneers Name Todd Bowles Head Coach
The Buccaneers have a new head coach.
Tampa Bay introduced defensive coordinator Todd Bowles as their new head coach during their introductory press conference on Thursday, March 31. The move comes shortly after head coach Bruce Arians decided plans to step down as head coach of the Bucs.
Arians explained why he made the decision at the end of March. Head coach changes usually take place in January.
Via NBC Sports’ Peter King:
“He hit me after the Super Bowl,” said Arians. “I have thought very carefully about playing at the top level. Then it was like, nah, let’s go for two. [The 2021 season] It’s a tiring one with all the injuries but still winning and making it to the finish line. Right after that, two to three weeks later [I thought] … If I quit, my coach will be fired. I couldn’t do that after that.
Arians attributed his decision to Tom Brady announcing his decision to return. With Brady’s return, the Buccaneers are in favor of a head coach transition.
“Tom is the key,” said Arians. “When Tom decided to come back … and all these people back now, it’s the perfect time for me to just go to the main office and still have the relationships that I love. “
Bowles had spent the previous three seasons as defensive coordinator for the Buccaneers, including two seasons with the Arizona Cardinals when the Arians were head coach in the 2013 and 2014 seasons.
This is not Bowles’ first time as head coach as he previously led the New York Jets from 2015 to 2018, reaching 24-40 in his four seasons.
Considering the Buccaneers are only two years out of the Super Bowl title, Bowles is arguably entering a much better situation than the first.
