The Chicago Bulls’ starting lineup has undergone many changes for the 2021-22 season. COVID-19 and trauma have resulted in so many different looks.

So when assessing a beginner’s strengths and weaknesses, it can be a bit difficult to determine where to start. Bleacher Report’s Greg Swartz praised the Bulls’ Javonte Green spark plugs in a recent article that identified each NBA team’s “weakest link” in their starting five games.

Javonte Green is called the Bulls’ weakest link

“Green has largely been the starting strength of the Chicago Bulls since [Patrick] Williams was sidelined after wrist surgery in October, but this is not a stable unit,” admits Swartz.

“With Williams’ return, we could see him finally establish himself as the opening 4 (or 3, depending on what you consider DeMar DeRozan), though Chicago has also experimented with with smaller squads.”

Is it really fair to call Green the weakest link when he’s just pressed into action because of the team’s limited supply of legitimate power-forward options? However, the explanation for the designation of Green with the dubious distinction continues.

“Finally, Williams will get Green’s nod, [Ayo] Dosunmu and anyone else for his versatility, defense and ceiling after being selected for 4th place overall in 2020,” continued Swartz. “With Lonzo Ball still sidelined with a knee injury, we may not see Chicago starting (Ball, [Zach] LaVine, DeRozan, Williams, [Nikola] Vucevic) back together until the playoffs take place. “

Is Green really the Bulls” weakest Lisk? ‘

It’s hard to determine who or what the Bulls as we get closer to post-season. They are just 5-11 in their last 16, and this drop has come even as the team has welcomed back Caruso and Williams from injury. While Green is the obvious choice among the players who have started the most games for the Bulls this season, there could be a case for another, higher-quality starter.

Vucevic is leading the Bulls in recoveries, blocks, and steals (among those who have played enough games to qualify). However, he also struggled to defend the bottom of the floor. Vucevic is often the target in tackles because of his slow footwork, and it could be argued that the team’s biggest struggle may have to do with that area of their game.

Vucevic has also struggled a lot with shots outside the box. Vucevic hit just 31.6% from the three-point range. That was his lowest percentage of long shots since the 2017-18 season. The Bulls had hoped to rely on Vucevic’s ability to be a big stretch, but that concept was marred by the veteran center’s inability to consistently beat open jumpers.

It’s hard to call a player who has made a clear contribution like Vucevic the weakest link, but he is certainly the most disappointing, all considered.

Green is averaging career highs across multiple categories. As a major contributor, Green scored 7.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, steals per game while making 35.9% of his thirds. Those numbers don’t match the impact Green has made on the Bulls this season with his hustle and aggressive play on both ends. He’s the igniter for Chicago.

If you had told someone pre-season that Green was going to hit three shots at a higher rate than Vucevic, most would have called you crazy.

However, that is the reality. Green may have been the weakest starter, but he’s been a bigger contributor than most would expect, and a bit of a god considering the trauma and depth issues Chicago has gone through both. Season.
