Calvin Harris has cleared up rumors he was to blame for ex-Rita Ora’s scrapped album

Calvin Harris has insisted he’s not to blame for ex Rita Ora scrapping her second album.

Rumors that the DJ had been involved began swirling after their split in 2014, when Rita claimed Calvin prevented her from performing I Will Never Let You Down – which he wrote and produced – at the Teen Choice Awards.

Shortly after, she canned her second album, with fans speculating that it was due to Calvin refusing to sign several songs from the CD.

While Calvin, 38, was silent at the time, he broke his silence on Sunday to insist the claims were a “myth”.

After a fan tweeted that if Rita’s second album hadn’t been “torpedoed,” she would have been “one of the biggest pop stars on earth,” Calvin was quick to hit back.

He tweeted: “The whole thing is a myth, there’s an unreleased song I’ve been working on and it’s not good.”

MailOnline has reached out to Rita’s representatives for comment.

Rita – who is now married to director Taika Waititi – previously spoke about her split from Calvin, confirming their album, which has been in the works for years, would not feature any music the duo had collaborated on before their split.

She said in 2017, “It’s one of those things that… Well, for me, it’s in the past. What I say kind of becomes a headline and it becomes a story again.’

She dismissed speculation that the duo were still at odds, adding: “He’s a great guy and we get along well now.”

Rita split from Calvin in 2014 after dating the “This Is What You Came For” hitmaker for just over a year.

She had stated Calvin was the first person she’d truly fallen in love with, but was reportedly “embarrassed” when he publicly announced their split via Twitter.

It was claimed that Rita was unaware that Calvin would be making the statement on the social media site, which read: “To counter speculation – me and Rita ended our relationship a while ago. She is a beautiful, talented woman and I wish her all the best. (sic)’

He reportedly ended the relationship after the former couple “argued for months” and “grew apart.” It was also claimed that the notoriously private Calvin “hated the extra attention” that came with dating Rita.

Tensions between the pair seemed to escalate when Calvin reportedly “banned” Rita from performing any music from their collaboration — specifically the catchy tune ‘I Will Never Let You Down,’ which topped the charts when it was released two years ago .

The British singer’s hit track was written and produced by Calvin – real name Adam Richard Wiles – and was released in March 2014, where it went straight to number one in the UK Singles Chart.

In response, Calvin tweeted, “You will only know one side of the RE Teen Choice Awards story because I choose not to speak to the newspapers about every aspect of my personal life. But I just need to know that I had a damn good reason.”

He then added an emoticon of a waving hand, as if publicly dismissing his former flame.

In an interview with Wonderland at the time of their split, Rita openly admitted, “Back then… I just wanted to crawl into my bed and die. But I got away on the other side, I survive.’

“I kind of saw the light at the end of the tunnel and just wanted to change the mood of the whole album,” she continued. “It was a real love album at first because I was there, but then obviously I didn’t feel like that.”

However, it is believed that Rita and Calvin reached an agreement in 2017 and “put their differences to rest.”

“They got in touch late last year and sorted things out,” a source told The Sun, before adding, “It was such a relief for both of them to be able to move on and put things behind them.”

Rita is now enjoying a comeback on the charts after retiring from the music scene due to a protracted legal battle with former record label Roc Nation – co-owned by rapper Jay Z – which delayed the release of her forthcoming second album.

Calvin released his sixth studio album, Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 2, in August and is engaged to TV presenter Vick Hope.
