Speaking of Highbury Squad YouTube channelKevin Campbell has spoken about Arsenal’s line-up and how they can get all their star players onto the pitch at once.
The Gunners have an incredibly talented young side at the moment but unfortunately it’s almost impossible for Gabriel Martinelli, Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe to all be on the pitch at the same time as there are only two spots on the wings.
However, Campbell reckons the Gunners could transition to a 4-4-2 once Takehiro Tomiyasu returns to the side as he would bring some more defensive stability to the Gunners and he has a good relationship with Bukayo Saka.

Campbell spoke of a possible change of formation.
“In order for us to have all our weapons on the pitch at the same time, are we going to a 4-4-2 like we did earlier this season? It might work if Tomiyasu comes back,” Campbell said.
“Are we going 4-3-3 or 4-4-2 at this moment? If we go 4-4-2, Tierney and Smith Rowe can have that relationship on the left, Saka and Tomiyasu have played on the right as that combination, but what 4-4-2 allows us is Martinelli on the left shoulder of the last defender while Lacazette plays into the hole. I’m just wondering if that would work for us in some games.”
As nice as it would be to have Martinelli, Saka and Smith Rowe on the pitch at the same time, a switch to a 4-4-2 would potentially sacrifice another player – Martin Odegaard.
The Norwegian has been absolutely exceptional this season as No. 10, but while he could be fielded as No. 8, he would lose much of what makes him great in a more secluded role and his defensive weaknesses would be quickly exposed.
Unfortunately, the Gunners’ best bet is probably to stick to a 4-2-3-1 and rotate Martinelli with Smith Rowe.
