Cara Maria Sorbello and Paulie Calafiore aren’t on this season’s The Challenge, but according to a rookie on Ride or Dies, the two have been the subject of some trash talk from the veterans in the house.

Nurys Mateo, who is working with Nelson Thomas this season, revealed in an Instagram Live after episode three that she was sure Paulie and Cara Maria would be in the season. “I thought a thousand percent that Paulie and Cara Maria would be there,” she said. “So when we were at the airport I thought I’d see her and I didn’t. I was so shocked.”

Nurys then claimed that there were many vets who “constantly educate” Cara and Paulie at the Challenge house, but that she wouldn’t name names. “I’m usually messy, but I let them deal with their own drama,” she explained. The “Are You The One?” alum said she would tell her co-stars that she’s friends with the couple and has known Paulie for four years, just to let them know she’s “listening to the tea.”

Nurys Mateo said that in Season 38, despite her absence, the cast members called Cara Maria Sorbello and Paulie Calafiore

During her live, Nurys also said how much she wished the controversial couple had been cast because there was so much talk about them, even during her absence. “I thought, man, if they were here that would have been pretty damn good,” she added.

Nurys said the competitors who spoke about Cara Maria and Paulie spat “so much hate” at the couple and said how lucky they were they weren’t in season because “they try so hard”. The “Ex on the Beach” alum added that she felt the pair deserved a spot, describing Cara Maria as a “fucking beast.”

Cara Maria Sorbello & Paulie Calafiore both spoke about how their arrival as heavyweights would have stirred things up among the cast

A clip of the Instagram Live was posted to Twitter, where Paulie shared it, adding that it was “nothing new” to him and Cara Maria. “AFTER EVERY SEASON, castmates would come up to us and say it’s the same people talking about the same shit,” he added.

Paulie praised Nurys for having “a backbone” and being open with her cast about her friendship with him. “Keep those receipts if they try to play victim,” he said. “Stop gambling and let’s get back to these scams.”

Paulie and Cara both commented on the season on the Jaychallenge Instagram page when it was posted that cara maria and paulie at the end of the first episode would have been a great twist. The caption noted that people’s reactions wouldn’t have been as positive as they were when Bananas and Nany walked out and it would have made for “great TV.”

In the comments, Cara Maria wrote: “A real ride or death that no one would have cheered to take on. what a bombshell it would be to actually shake things up.” Paulie agreed that this caused “fireworks” and the cast didn’t cheer her arrival.
