she said The sun: “I don’t understand why my behavior should change just because I’m getting older.
Candidly: Carol Vorderman has spilled the beans on her 10-year “non-committal” relationships with several men she calls her “special friends.”
“Maybe I have a friend who will only last a few months. I call them “special friends”. People may have other terms for it!’
Elsewhere in the interview, she added, “Every comedy tells women to look for love and live happily ever after. It’s all nonsense. We sell every little girl the message, “Cinderella needs a prince to save her.” But half of marriages end in divorce.”
Carol has been married twice and has two children, and while she’s currently single, fans keep wanting to hear about her past relationships.
MailOnline has taken a deep dive into Carol’s love life, from her first marriage to giving up monogamy.

Carol’s first marriage was at the young age of 24 when she tied the knot with Christopher Mather in 1985.
However, the TV star and the naval officer didn’t last long as they soon split just 12 months after walking down the aisle.
In 2018, Carol joked that the marriage was doomed from the start after she performed It’s Raining Men on her wedding day.

Speaking to BBC Radio Wales, Carol explained: “When I first got married, not particularly successfully… that might be why…
“So we got married during the day and had the standard reception and then there was an evening.
“I put on a sheer outfit, like what you see on Strictly Come Dancing these days, and it was loaned to me by the girls on Three, Two, One, the program.”
Laughing, she recalled: “I went on stage and sang that [song] at my wedding and i was then abducted by my husband and the marriage didn’t last long so come on it’s raining men and you can understand his reasons.’
FOR THE SECOND TIME
Four years after her split from Christopher, Carol married her second husband, Patrick King.
She remained married to the management consultant for a decade and they had two children, Katie and Cameron.
However, the couple then separated in 2000, with Carol citing their split as one of her biggest regrets.

She told Woman Magazine: “I never said why my marriage broke up and we agreed never to speak publicly about it.
“I deeply regret the divorce and my mother thinks we should have stayed together.”
Sadly, she admitted, “He’s remarried now, so there’s no chance we’ll get back together.”
“If my career hadn’t started the way it did, Paddy and I probably wouldn’t have broken up.”
The experience forever turned her from marriage, as she later said, “I never want to get married again.”
Though she wasn’t ready to walk down the aisle again, the Countdown star has kept up to date.
In the early 2000s, she met Des Kelly at a Christmas party and they began a long-term relationship.
Carol and Dec lived together, dividing their time between London and West Cork in Ireland.

But after six years together, the couple finally went their separate ways in 2006.
Carol then dated Graham ‘Duffy’ Duff, who was 14 years her junior.
The TV star and the Red Arrows veteran dated four years and then had a brief split in 2015 before rekindling their relationship.

Although Carol had tried the relationship again, she announced that they ended it the following year.
In 2016, she told The Mirror, “I’m happily single, freely independent and doing my own thing.”
Carol then added: “I’m not against dating someone 10 years younger, it’s acceptable. But Duffy was 14 years younger – that was really a bit silly.”

Appearing on Michelle Visage’s Rule Breakers podcast, Carol recently revealed she has five “special friends” while talking about it ‘system’ that she has introduced over the past 10 years.
Carol has been very candid about her complicated love life, saying that she “isn’t into one-night stands” and instead dates several men she affectionately calls her “special friends.”
When asked by Michelle if she was in a relationship, Carol quipped, “No! I’m having the best time. I spoke about it once. I have a system that I have had for 10 years. They are called “special friends”.
“A few months ago I was talking about having ‘special friends,’ and it was like the world had collapsed again for some people, but actually I found out there were a lot of women who said, ‘I never would have thought about it like that.’
Carol added that she’s in “long-term relationships, if you will” with her special friends – and has been with some for years.
She said: “One is 11 years old, the other is seven years old, you know everyone is single. It’s a happy place. I hasten to add that I am not into one night stands.”
Surprise: Carol recently appeared on Michelle Visage’s ‘Rule Breakers’ podcast and revealed she has five ‘special friends’ while discussing the ‘system’ she’s had for the last 10 years
“The language around a woman of my generation is that if you had more than one partner, when you got married this was you, that was you. Everything was pejorative towards a woman, that was the environment I grew up in. It was like ‘she was desperate’, everything was judgmental.’
Carol continued: “Well you can take all this and throw it out the window, that’s my polite way of saying it.
‘But it doesn’t hurt. It’s a happy place to live. The only thing that was sold to me when I was young was a fairy tale about a poor girl, meets a prince, they get married and they live happily ever after.”
‘Special’: Carol has been very candid about her complicated love life, saying she ‘don’t do one-night stands’ and instead dates several men she affectionately calls her ‘special friends’.
“This whole assumption, ‘Do you already have a partner? Do you have a man?’ Well, no, actually I have five.”
Michelle responded by calling the math genius a “legend.”
Carol has previously spoken out about her many “special friends,” including an astronaut who “calls her from the space station.”
She said This Morning: “I live my life in chapters, and you said, and this chapter, since I was about 50. So I’ve lived a much freer life for the last ten years.
Friends in high places: Carol has previously spoken about her many “special friends”, one of whom is an astronaut who “calls her from the space station”.
“I’ve never felt more free. So I ignored the search for one person and I have a number of what I call “special friends”.
She continued, “I don’t really want to get married again. I don’t really want to live with a man again. Have to keep an eye on him all the time. But this is a time to break that nonsensical taboo that says a person should only be looking for another person who will satisfy everything in their life. This is hell.”
Adding her “special friends,” Carol explained, “They don’t know each other, but they know about it. It’s a very honest relationship.
“One of them has been around a lot longer than my marriage. Yes, it’s over 10 years. Another is seven. He is an astronaut. He called me from the space station.”
