Jamie Carragher has suggested Liverpool could look “different” if they had to replace Mo Salah and Sadio Mane in Paris after their Champions League final defeat by Real Madrid. as he told CBS Sports on Paramount+ (5/28/22 at 11:20 p.m.).
The Anfield legend explained that Salah “wasn’t right” in Liverpool colors in the second half of the season as he endured a night to forget in the French capital.
Salah has openly made it clear he will be at Liverpool next season but there is no clear notion as to whether he or Mane will sign new deals.
Before the Champions League final in Paris, there was heated talk that Bayern Munich wanted to lure Mane to Germany.
Could this be the end of Liverpool fans watching Mane and Salah wreak havoc on Merseyside?
Well, Carragher suggested that could be the case after Vinicius Junior’s goal ended Liverpool’s chances of winning the treble this season.
“You were dealing with a great goalkeeper who had one of the best games of his life,” Carragher said.
“If I say Liverpool’s front three haven’t done enough, they still haven’t had a chance where you think ‘he has to score or he has to score’.
“Mo Salah wasn’t right in the second half of the season. This is Mo Salah at his best (his right foot shot saved by Courtois). Really sharp and you have to put your hands up and say ‘The keeper is absolutely fantastic’.
“Liverpool have played in three finals. You didn’t score in any of them. Still, this is one of the best teams to score goals. This is a concern for the future.
“Also the situation with Salah and Mane. It might not be the end for this team just yet, but who knows what will happen now in the summer? It could be another Liverpool team we’re looking at for next season if you had to replace these two.
IS LIVERPOOL AT A CROSSROADS?
However, the Reds have to regulate the contract situations of their stars, because Jürgen Klopp has signaled that he will be there for the next four years.
A new midfielder is likely to arrive this summer, with Monaco’s Aurelien Tchouameni heavily linked with the Reds and Real Madrid.
But could there be a change in the front areas? The arrival of Luis Diaz in January strengthened the team.
He hasn’t been used as a direct replacement for anyone but all the talk about the likes of Mane just won’t go away because Madrid are also on the rise.
