Brig. Gen. Melissa A. Coburn, commander of the 22nd Air Force, assigned command of the 908th Airlift Wing
Col. Craig W. Drescher and Col. Christopher K. Lacouture during a change of command ceremony Saturday at Maxwell Air Force Base.
The change of command ceremony takes place in the presence of unit members and is military
Tradition in which the outgoing commander symbolically relinquishes command and authority over it
of a unit by passing the flag and command of the unit to the presiding officer, who passes it on
the new commander, ushering in a new era of leadership for the new commander
and the unity.
Saturday’s ceremony was particularly significant as the wing transitions to a new mission.
Drescher is the last commander to lead the 908th as a tactical airlift wing, and Lacouture is
is intended to usher in the helicopter flight training mission.
