That’s what Charlie Nicholas told his column in the Scottish Daily Express that he believes Rangers star Aaron Ramsey could come to the fore and shine on Sunday when the Gers welcome Old Firm rivals Celtic in a crucial title fight at Ibrox.
Ramsey, 31, has only played six times for Rangers since being loaned from Juventus on deadline day. But the Welsh ace started for the Gers last time out, scoring – albeit with a tap-in – in a 2-1 win over Dundee.
The midfielder continued his return to fitness with a superb performance against Austria for Wales in a World Cup play-off. Wales won 2-1 and Ramsey was great – he lasted the full 95 minutes in Cardiff. Since then he has been training.
Ramsey is likely to be rested or benched against the Czech Republic on Tuesday night – as confirmed by Rob Page. Nicholas believes Ramsey could be the man who could make the difference on Sunday as Celtic prepare for Ibrox.
“I have a feeling Ramsey could come into play on Sunday. He has done well in his last two games for Rangers and Wales. I’ve seen enough of him in an Arsenal shirt to know he can cause trouble on big occasions.”
Nicholas on Ramsey: Rangers need their best players against Celtic
Celtic have the momentum. While Rangers are shining in Europe, Ange Postecoglou’s side are looking better domestically and simply need to avoid defeat to remain at the top. Rangers must win and use Ibrox to their advantage.
At his best, Ramsey is the best player on his loan side. But Ramsey isn’t the player he used to be. Should he start against Celtic? Without a doubt, but Rangers will need him to be something close to his best form.
