Chayce Beckham, Phillip Phillips set for ‘American Idol’ return

Some of “American Idol’s” fan-favorites return to the stage for the first live show of season 20, which will air Sunday, April 17, 2022.

according to people, Three alumni will return to appear in the three-hour episode.

Phillip Phillips, Alejandro Aranda (aka Scarypoolparty) and Chayce Beckham will each return for the episode. This will be the second time Beckham has appeared in season 20, and the first for both Aranda and Phillips.

According to the episode description, the “Top 24 ‘American Idol’ Contenders return to Hollywood for a shocking night of revelations. Last week’s votes have arrived and the top 20 season 20 handpicked by America are revealed. All 20 remaining contestants will appear in front of Superstar judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie, and viewers at home will vote again to determine who advances to the next round.”


There will be a Celebration episode

As part of its 20th anniversary celebrations, American Idol is bringing back even more alumni. The episode, which will feature many appearances, will air on May 2, 2022, according to Deadline.

Stars returning to sing duets include Ruben Studdard, Jordin Sparks, Lauren Alaina, Scotty McCreery, David Cook, Kris Allen, Laine Hardy, Laci Kaye Booth, Maddie Poppe, Caleb Lee Hutchinson, Willie Spence and Grace artist.

Here are the duet pairings:

  • Lauren Alaina and Scotty McCreery
  • David Cook and Kris Allen
  • Laine Hardy and Laci Kaye Booth
  • Maddie Poppe and Caleb Lee Hutchinson
  • Willie Spence and Grace Kintsler

A leader dropped out

Kenedi Anderson was one of the three Platinum Ticket winners on “American Idol” season 20 and announced that she left the competition after the 24 best performances.

Anderson, a 17-year-old Virginia singer, sang Lady Gaga’s “Applause” for her audition, and she earned a standing ovation from then-judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie.

American Idol producer Freemantle Media issued a statement on the exit People.

“We’re disappointed that Kenedi is leaving, but we look forward to seeing this celebratory 20th season of incredible talent vying to become the next ‘American Idol,'” the statement said.

Anderson’s performance of Christina Perri’s song “Human” was still aired during the Top 24 Performance Show and many people loved it.

Anderson went to Instagram to announce that she has left the show.

“Due to personal reasons I can’t continue on ‘American Idol,'” she wrote. “It was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make, but I know it’s necessary. I’m so grateful to American Idol, the judges, the producers, the amazing contestants and all the fans who supported me.”

She added, “Thank you for giving me such an amazing opportunity to share my voice, pursue my dreams, find so much joy and happiness in what I love, and make lifelong friends in the process.”

Anderson’s exit means only one of the 11 people who competed on April 11, 2022 will be eliminated from the competition on the three-hour episode of the show on Sunday, April 17.

“American Idol” airs Sundays and Mondays at 8 p.m. Eastern and Pacific time on ABC.
