On October 7th, two titans of geek culture – Magic: The Gathering and Warhammer 40,000 – come together in a most exciting collaboration. The characters, stories, and world of Games Workshop’s epic Warhammer 40,000 universe come in the form of playable maps that leverage the gameplay architecture of Magic: The Gathering. As part of the Universes Beyond initiative, bringing gritty sci-fi to Magic’s normally more fantasy-oriented underpinnings is a brilliant idea, and it’s a brilliant idea with a company as renowned for incredible artistry as Magic itself.
The crossover will be released in the form of four Commander decks, each led by a character capable of fighting the factions under their control.
You can see art for each deck’s commander in the slideshow below.

Today we have a card from the Forces of the Imperium deck to reveal. We introduce ourselves, bloody priest:
This card fits very well into the overall strategy of the deck. According to senior game designer Ethan Fleischer in this intriguing Bridge Worlds featurette, Forces of the Imperium is “based on the white man’s philosophy of building a large army of small creatures,” which will make using Sanguinary Priest to trade them for damage very useful.
Magic: The Gathering’s Universes Beyond Warhammer 40,000 Crossover will be available on October 7th, while Secret Lair Drops will be available from October 17th to November 14th. Visit the Magic X Warhammer 40,000 official website for more information.
