Child tax credits – up to $300 a month – were introduced under the US bailout earlier this year, and the final payments were rolled out last week.

President Biden had hoped to extend them as part of the Building Better Back legislation, but that seems to have ended as Manchin has voiced his opposition to it.

“If I can’t go home and explain it to the people of West Virginia, I can’t vote for it,” Manchin told Fox News Sunday.

“And I can’t vote to pass this piece of legislation.”

Manchin has frequently expressed concern about the cost of the $1.9 trillion spending plan, which will expand social spending, childcare and health care, and provide funds to deal with climate change. climate change.

Manchin, a Democrat representing West Virginia, is a key vote in a divided Senate, as Democrats need all 50 members in the polling booth for the plan to pass.

Without that vote, the Build Back Better plan is nearly impossible to continue, while Senate Republicans staunchly oppose it.

The outcry is a blow to parents hoping to continue paying child tax credits into 2022.

Child tax credits were introduced this year as part of President Biden’s relief plan for the United States.

Payments are up to $300 per month for parents of children under six years of age.

Families with children between the ages of 6 and 17 receive $250 per month, while students ages 18 to 24 receive a one-time payment of $500.

All households with children eligible for a $1,400 incentive check issued in March 2021 are eligible for the child discount.

The last payment in 2021 was made on December 15.

Because the payments are split, many parents can claim the remaining $1,800 next year when filing their 2021 tax return.

But from now on, that’s the end of the children’s sale.

President Biden hopes to extend the payments with the approval of the Rebuild Better plan.

Britain has publicly acknowledged that the plan will not succeed before the end of the calendar year, but hopes that it will come in January.

That would, however, lead to a reduction in the child tax benefit.

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki told reporters on Friday, “If we’re done by January, we’re going to be talking to Treasury officials and others about double payments by January.” February as an option.”

“But the president wants to see this progress, which is his priority when Congress returns.”
