Localized Covid-19 lockdowns are spreading across China, suggesting Shanghai’s fight to contain the virus could be the prelude to a broader fight that threatens to weaken the world’s second-largest economy.
Chinese health authorities on Thursday reported more than 29,000 new infections, the highest daily number since the pandemic began in downtown Wuhan more than two years ago.
