Chris Sutton says Rangers’ 28-year-old felt ’embarrassed’ against Celtic

Chris Sutton has claimed John Lundstram was “embarrassed” for some of the tackles he had for Rangers against Celtic in Hampden on Sunday. as he told Premier Sport.

After a vibrant afternoon of football that went into extra time, Rangers sang the loudest as they beat their bitter rivals 2-1 to reach the Scottish Cup final.

In the second half of regular time, Lundstram took out his opponent Callum McGregor after a careless tackle, with the referee on the field awarding a free kick but no yellow card for the player.

It was an obvious foul by the 28-year-old for not contradicting Bobby Madden’s on-field call.

Although Sutton admitted during Sutton’s commentary stint alongside ex-Rangers man Kevin Thomson that he “got away with it”.

Nonetheless, Sutton had it all to say.

“I just think he’s just embarrassing himself,” Sutton said.

Kevin Thomson then added: “He got away with that, that’s for sure.”

Sutton replied: “How many times have you said that this afternoon?”

In the end, Lundstram was left behind in the first half of extra time, the player not being cautioned but being praised for his performance.

His Rangers team-mates did the job and despite going into extra time in Thursday night’s Europa League win over Braga, it was Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s players who showed the energy towards the end.

Van Bronckhorst hasn’t been in the Ibrox hot seat that long, having replaced Steven Gerrard in November.

During that time, the Dutchman has had mixed results, but this one might top it all off so far.
