Chris Wong wins slot at Capcom Cup X

Capcom Cup X is one of the biggest events we’ve ever seen for fighting games. While the event will take place in 2024, all qualifying matches took place in 2023. We have gradually expanded our list of invited players as more and more names qualified for the grand final. Most recently, Chris Wong secured his spot at Capcom Cup X.

There were some big events taking place this weekend, including the France Capcom Qualifier. This was our last in-person event with some of the best players in attendance. However, how did Chris Wong secure his place in the final?

Chris Wong qualifiers for Capcom Cup X

As the final qualifier for the Capcom Cup, the event in France featured some of the best players. Of the over 400 players, the final round was made up of the best fighting players. ChrisWong ended up at the top of the winners list. In his first round he defeated NuckleDu with a clear 2-1 win. That was before he faced Humanbomb in the semifinals, where he extended his lead with a 3-0 win. In our winner’s final he narrowly defeated Valmaster 3:2.

In the grand final itself, the player competed against MenaRD. After the defeat in the semi-finals, MenaRD fought its way back up from the losers group. Things were clearly in MenaRD’s favor in the first round of the final, where they won 3-0. This forced a reset of the brackets, giving Chris Wong another chance to qualify.

The final was much closer until the end. Won played Luke against MenaRD Blanka and won the first set before losing the next. Things looked a little more consistent. However, Chris Wong withdrew it. He took the next two sets and won the second round of the final.
