Ciara Releases Independent Woman Song, Social Media Reacts

Ciara is back in the booth cooking up an ‘Independent Woman’ anthem. Last week, the singer teased the track, titled “For Da Girls,” on her social media platforms.
“The most dangerous woman of all is the one who refuses to rely on your sword to save her because she carries her own.” – RH Sin
Powerful. Independent woman 💪🏽❤️

Days later, people are still divided over the lyrics, particularly the line “This is for the girls who don’t need a man.” Fans and critics are debating online the look of a happily married woman (heyyy Russell Wilson) seemingly encouraging single life.
In the first preview, Ciara sings:
“This is for the girls who get money, this is for the girls who don’t need a man. This is for the girls who are in love with themselves, this is for all the girls who have done it themselves. This is for all independent da girls, this is for all da girls living stress free, this is for all girls on a mission like me.”
At the end of the clip, Ciara smiles and compliments her work as “so good.” And while some fans agreed in her Instagram comments section, others had their thoughts go in the opposite direction.
“She preaches INDEPENDENCE, not STAY SINGLE!!! You can also be independently married or independently single!! Don’t slow down in this comment section,” wrote @milky868.
“It’s embarrassing to watch a married woman sing a song like this. You don’t care about the black women in your community. You could easily do love songs since you’re in love with your husband, but you make a conscious choice to do something that encourages the women in our community to stay single because you know that will sell and make money. Please make it meaningful. BRING BACK LOVE SONGS and stop trying to rob your community,” wrote @slimbrown__.
“We women who aren’t playing in 2023 are walking away, we’re finally learning to put USA first and stay away from anything that doesn’t align with our purpose or get our heart’s desires, and I love that for that.” USA let’s go,” i_hearttiara wrote.
“Ok I love you Cici, but you’re married now, let’s change the narrative. we need men And it’s not always about money that you sing about as a family woman encouraging a generation of wives and mothers but I guess I’ll wait until I hear the rest of the song,” wrote @che_che4.
“We need more songs that promote togetherness, love and family. We have enough single ladies already, be music yourself while the entertainers are happily married,” wrote @mslolo247.”
Twitter debates ‘Independent Woman’ anthem as Ciara continues to promote track
The preview received over 159,000 likes on Ciara’s Insta profile and over 4,800 mixed comments. It didn’t help Ciara’s case that about 24 hours before she teased the anthem, she shared a series of photos from a romantic evening with her husband on what appeared to be Valentine’s Day. The pictures show her and her husband Russell – hugging, smiling and in love outdoors and enjoying a candlelit dinner decorated with roses.
Despite the crucifixion in the comments section, Ciara’s last tweet is undisturbed. On Monday (February 20), she teased the song again on Twitter, accompanied by a TikTok throwback and recent footage of herself and her career.
“This for all women who are in love with themselves. This for all the girls who have done it themselves.” – my eternal letter to myself,” Ciara tweeted.

However, here’s what people on Twitter had to say about the singer’s upcoming song.
Black American celebrity is separate from Black American life.
That’s why Glorilla’s FNF exploded and it never will. Gorilla’s song is about taking a break from the bullshit to focus on yourself.
Ciara is about making it on your own during a time of economic downturn.

Ciara has 36 “I love my man and our love” songs, listen to one of them.

Y’all on Ciara’s ass for her song…Niggas make songs they don’t live by everyday

Ciara please drop this song because affirmations are real. And like I do with any other song, I’ll whitewash the parts that don’t apply to me.

Ciara’s “this for the girls who don’t need a man” statement should NOT have pissed you off so much. If you need a man, then this song is not for you. DON’T LISTEN. It’s literally that simple

I just find it sooooo corny that you keep saying that artists like Beyoncé and Ciara are pushing an “independent woman” narrative when they have as many songs about love and that they need a man, if not more! You guys are bugging me sooooo much with this crazy narration.
