Colorado State Capitol: shooting reports outside



There were reports of gunfire being fired on a street in front of the Colorado State Capitol in Denver, with an on-site protection order beginning. The order has now been cancelled. There are no reported injuries.

“Officers are in the Colfax and Broadway area investigating a report of gunfire being fired. No injuries have been reported at this time.” The Denver Police Department tweeted.

Colorado House Dems tweeted on April 18, 2022: “The Colorado State Patrol issued a shelter-in-place order for the Capitol Complex following reports of gunfire at the intersection of Colfax and Broadway. Please follow directions from the Colorado State Patrol & Denver Police Department.”

Colorado Senate Democrats tweeted that the lockdown was lifted, writing, “UPDATE: The existing order on the State Capitol and surrounding buildings has been lifted, according to the Colorado State Patrol.”

Earlier, the Senate Dems wrote: “The CO State Capitol is in lockdown following reports of gunfire at the intersection of Colfax and Broadway. The Colorado State Patrol has issued a shelter-in-place order for the Capitol Complex.”

A state senator tweeted a warning

State Senator Kerry Donovan tweeted, “ALERT: #coleg #copolitics State Capitol :
This is Colorado State Patrol – please protect yourself on site – report of shots fired Colfax/Broadway – CSP & DPD in area.

The Colorado State Patrol tweeted, “INCIDENT AT THE CAPITOL: Following reports of shots being fired near Colfax and Broadway, a shelter was set up at the Capitol as a precaution. The existing shelter is lifted at 4:06 p.m. at the Capitol and surrounding buildings. soldiers in the area.”

Colorado Senate Republicans responded, “Thank you for protecting us!”

CBS Denver reported that the shelter-in-place order was lifted just after 4 p.m. on April 18, 2022.

Shots were reportedly fired outside the building

CBS Denver reported that authorities are looking for a suspect. The TV station confirmed to authorities that the shots were fired outside the building.

KDVR-TV also reported that the shooting in the Colfax Avenue area was being investigated.

The incident was just breaking out and many details were not known, including the description of the suspect or the name and motive. The exact course of the shots was still unclear. The authorities had only released general information.

Colfax Ave. and houses the Colorado General Assembly, as well as the offices of the governor, lieutenant governor, and treasurer. Designed by architect Elijah E. Myers, the building is deliberately reminiscent of the United States Capitol, constructed of white Colorado granite and topped with its distinctive golden dome. The dome itself is covered with copper plates gilded with gold leaf from a Colorado mine. The gold was first added in 1908 to commemorate the Colorado Gold Rush.
