Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli was left out of the squad for today’s match against Chelsea amid speculation he could join Newcastle United.
That’s according to The Athletic, who thinks that Antonio Conte has decided to leave Alli out of his squad for today’s match.
Tottenham are ready to let Alli go on loan before the transfer deadline, which is a week on Monday.
It is thought there is a ‘good chance’ for Alli’s transfer to happen right up to the final hours of the window, because current interest isn’t all that appealing.
Letting Alli go today could only help hasten negotiations with interested clubs, with Newcastle United being an option.
Daily Mail’s request that Tottenham are expecting an approach from Newcastle for Alli in the next eight days.
Newcastle are struggling to sign Jesse Lingard and could turn to Alli as a replacement to strengthen Eddie Howe’s squad.
Alli, 25, has been given his chances under Conte, most notably in the 2-2 home draw with Liverpool.
Alli’s most recent appearance came in an unconvincing 3-1 win over Morecambe in the FA Cup, which could be the last game for Antonio Conte.
Most at Tottenham will now agree that Alli just needs a fresh start from Tottenham to find his best form again.
Signed to MK Dons seven years ago, Alli burst onto the scene in 2015-16, becoming a star of the Premier League and England team.
After shining under Mauricio Pochettino, Alli’s performance fell off the cliff and he was unlikely to return to his best.
Joining Newcastle’s relegation battle might not be ideal in Alli’s mind, but if it’s a choice between going to Tyneside or sitting on the Tottenham bench, he might be better off joining. Magpies.
