Could Disney Plus get former presenter Tom Bergeron to return to ‘Dancing With the Stars’? There are many factors at play, but if they’re looking to attract a new demographic of subscribers, getting Bergeron back would be a good place to start.
The Biggest Factors
Certainly the biggest factor is whether Bergeron is even interested in returning. Maybe this ship has sailed for him and he has no interest in coming back. He’s received some pretty snarky and hilarious reactions to what’s going on at the show over the past few months. But maybe he would be open to a return?
Another important factor is why Bergeron was fired and whether the new management could handle things differently.
It’s no secret that Bergeron was fired from Dancing With the Stars for a clash with the producers. In a 2021 Interview with the author Vicki AbelsonBergeron spoke about how the show had changed over the years and that the “show [he] Left wasn’t the show [he] loved.”
“We had very clear, at times public, disagreements about the new showrunner and some of the executives, and luckily I was at a point in my life and career where I didn’t just have to shut up and accept it. I decided to go public with some of the concerns I had at the time and I think that set the stage for that. I kind of saw it coming,” Bergeron said, referring to his Twitter statement after the show, former White House press secretary Sean Spicer cast.
However, executive producer Andrew Llinares, who was involved in the firing of Bergeron following this incident, is stepping down from the show. Whoever takes over Llinares might have (or could develop) a better relationship with Bergeron and agree to keep politics out of the ballroom.
Finally, Bergeron directed a few pilot episodes for a “tic-tac-dough” reboot on NBC, which is yet to be announced. If that goes into series order at NBC, it looks like Bergeron has moved on to other projects.
But if the game show reboot doesn’t move forward, and if the price is right with Disney Plus, Bergeron might waltz back into the Dancing With the Stars ballroom.
Fans are dying to see it
Between the news that ‘Dancing With the Stars’ is moving to Disney Plus, plus the Llinares’ retirement and the new report The sun that host Tyra Banks is also shown the door, fans clamor for Bergeron to come back.
Several other commenters on Facebook also mentioned how much they would like to see Tom Back. And further RedditOne fan asked Banks to “stay behind the camera” and “bring Tom back” for the show.
Another Reddit commenter called The show “has to get on its knees to ask Tom to come back,” and then get him a good co-host, like former dancers Jeannie Mai or Amanda Kloots.
And a commenter on one of Bergeron’s Instagram posts wrote, “Please come home, Tom! #DWTS needs to bring a Brinks truck to your home and ask your forgiveness. We want the world to get better and the #GoodGuy to win!”
Dancing With the Stars returns for Season 31 on Disney Plus in Fall 2022. It will be interesting to see how the move reshapes the 16-year dance competition series.
