Counties with the longest life expectancies in Pennsylvania

(STACKER) — Life expectancy in the United States was generally ascending, with rare exceptions for certain population groups. Between 1960 and 2019, American life expectancy increased by about a decade to 79 years. Longer lifespans are due to improved health care, such as diagnostic and medical advances, and lifestyle changes, including healthier diets and a reduction in life expectancy, as well as smoking and alcohol consumption.
While no single factor determines the overall health of an entire community, certain socioeconomic and environmental factors, such as access to health care, clean air, clean water, and affordable housing, contribute significantly to the overall health and well-being of the entire population.
Use 2022 County Health Rankings & Roadmaps from the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute, forklift identified counties with the longest life expectancies in Pennsylvania. Life expectancy measures the average number of years a person is expected to live after birth and is calculated based on the number of deaths over a given period and the average number of people at risk of dying during that period. Counties with unreliable or insufficient data were excluded from the analysis. Mortality data are from the National Vital Statistics System.
