Covid lab leak fears: Federal report says NIH failed to keep tabs on Wuhan lab

The NIH was blasted by an official watchdog today for failing to keep tabs on US-sponsored virus experiments in China feared to have caused the Covid crisis.

According to a report by the US Office of the Inspector General, the country has been found The medical research authority did not properly check whether the tests in Wuhan involved pathogens with pandemic potential.

The federal review specifically looked at three taxpayer-funded research grants awarded between 2014 and 2021 to British scientist Peter Daszak’s now infamous EcoHealth Alliance.

It found that the National Institutes of Health (NIH) failed to “effectively monitor EcoHealth’s compliance with some requirements or take timely action.” The NIH and EcoHealth also failed to “understand the type of research being conducted, identify potential problem areas, and take corrective action,” the review adds.

Testing of improved viruses engineered to be more infectious or deadly — known as “gain of function” — is banned in the US, but the grants have been channeled to the notorious Wuhan Institute of Virology with the help of EcoHealth.

Justin Goodman of the White Coat Waste Project group said: “This audit confirms what we’ve been documenting since early 2020, when we first uncovered NIH funding of the Wuhan lab: The EcoHealth Alliance was sending taxpayer money to Wuhan for dangerous animal testing that likely causing the pandemic, violating federal laws and policies, and wasting tax dollars.

“However, the Wuhan lab remains eligible for even more taxpayer money for animal testing, and since the pandemic began, EcoHealth has raised at least $46 million in new federal funding from the DOD, USAID, NIH, and NSF.

“As the group that first uncovered and ended EcoHealth’s disastrous collaboration with the Wuhan animal lab, we call on Congress to dismantle these rogue organizations once and for all.

“Taxpayers should not be forced to fund reckless white coats who waste money, break the law and endanger public health. Stop the money, stop the madness.’ Covid lab leak fears: Federal report says NIH failed to keep tabs on Wuhan lab
