Liverpool are longtime fans of Rennes winger Jeremy Doku – and former Reds player Craig Bellamy has offered his views on the player.

Many names are linked by Liverpool in each transfer window, and Doku is one of the most prominent.

This goes back to Doku’s time in Anderlecht, his native Belgium.

Liverpool want to sign Doku from Anderlecht in 2018, with Jurgen Klopp believes he can be the new Sadio Mane.

Romelu Lukaku is said to have advised Doku not to movebelieves that the young player is better off staying at Anderlecht.

Doku showed huge promise in Belgium, scoring six goals and seven assists in 37 appearances for Anderlecht.

The logical step is to take an intermediate step before joining a European power. In 2020, Doku made that move by joining Rennes.

In such a dangerous tackle, Doku still has not found the final product. Four goals and five goals in 49 games for Rennes isn’t great, and it shows the growth he still needs to make.

Doku is still expected to end up in a top team one day, with Liverpool seen as the likely destination because of their long-term interest, even as recently as last summer.

With Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz, Liverpool appear to be gearing up for their next great trio – and Doku could be a part of that.

One former Liverpool player who knows Doku well is Craig Bellamy, who coached Doku during his time at Anderlecht.

Talk to the Central ClubBellamy has admitted that Doku is a ‘difficult’ player to coach but will give you absolutely everything if you’re interested in him.

Bellamy notes that you cannot speak to Doku as he could ‘go the other way’, with Jurgen Klopp’s individual approach possibly ideal for the Belgium international.

“Even Doku in Rennes, he calls me all the time and he knows I have his back,” says Bellamy. “He is a difficult player. Antwerp boy, tough kid, beyond talent. Don’t mess with him – you can’t talk to him, because he’ll go the other way. Let him be around, let him know you care about him because if you care about him he will play like anything for you,” he added.
