Cynthia Erivo reflects on filming an emotionally evil scene

Cynthia Erivo talks about her emotional journey during the production of Wicked and in particular the overwhelming experience filming the musical number I’m Not That Girl.
“I realize I’ve said very little about my experience at Wicked, and that’s mostly because I’ve put my head down and engaged with this wonderfully complex being that is Elphaba, and it’s really hard to do it put into words,” Erivo wrote in one Instagram post on Saturday.
Erivo’s Reflection comes 111 days into production on the Jon M. Chu-directed film after the crew wrapped filming on “I’m Not That Girl,” a moment when Erivo says her “heart broke and tears flowed .”
“I thought of us, who often feel like we’re on the outside. Those who don’t know that it’s their differences, oddities and quirks that make them beautiful and special. Those who for some reason feel they cannot be loved and I was proud to sing a song that could express those feelings,” Erivo wrote. “I’m eternally grateful to play a role that turns the notion of beauty on its head.”

Erivo, who stars alongside Ariana Grande in “Wicked,” also expressed her gratitude for working with “some of the most beautiful souls on the planet,” noting that she’s “already mourning this day.” [their] The little bubble must end.”
