Thursday night was a big night in Philadelphia as former Sixer Ben Simmons returned to the Wells Fargo Center. Simmons was traded to James Harden on the trade deadline after refusing to play for the Sixers this season because he was unhappy with the team.

While Simmons was out of uniform on Thursday night, he was on the bench for the game, which meant Sixers fans had a chance to voice their disappointment with him. Since then trading has gone well for the Sixers, as they drew 5-0 with Harden on the floor and averaged 125.4 points per game. But the Nets slowed them down, winning 129-100.

Attachment relationship

Since Simmons was traded, many members of the Sixers have spoken about the status of their relationship with him. Danny Green joined the Ryen Russillo Podcast on Thursday, where he discussed trying to contact him.

“I think we all tried at different times to reach out… we had to fly to LA before training camp to talk to him and I’ll be back anyway because I have a home. there… The team will set up something for us. Green said.

“I was going to go anyway so I reached out, I think his number might have changed at the time, I don’t know, but I contacted him on a personal level and said look at it. We can turn things around, let’s sit down. and have a talk. I sent several text messages at different times, over the course of several weeks only seeing where he was, I did not speak to him… I was checking with him and I have not heard back. When he showed up, we were shocked to see him… we were so excited like something happened, but he didn’t radiate the same energy as being excited about it.”

While Simmons changing his phone number isn’t a big deal, it’s a little surprising that he didn’t let any of his teammates know. It speaks to how fractured the relationship is, that it is not only the organization, but also with his teammates.

During the interview, Green also admitted that the team would discuss who they might get in a trade for Simmons and which of them might be included in the trade. He also said he saw Andre Drummond, part of the trade, leave the team’s premises shortly before the trade was announced.

Noisy environment

This was just one more story that sparked as Simmons sat on the Nets bench on Thursday night. A video has surfaced on social media of Sixers fans “hello” to Simmons as he leaves the team hotel.

Earlier in the week, it was also reported that the Wells Fargo Center had increased security this evening upon Simmons’ return. All of this for a match he won’t even be in – imagine what would happen if the two teams met in the knockout stages, with Simmons finally working.
